Pulled everything from the junkyard a while ago for swap and I finally want to bring in the set up to get kingpins reamed in. ( 1970 f-100 360 engine) Problems is I have been dealing with othe issues and I forgot what year truck I pulled eveything from. I pulled the the arms, calipers, prop value and a sway bar how can I tell which year I have so i can get the correct kingpins put in. Thanks.
Hey!
Kingpins are the same from 1970 to 74. 1975-79 are different,1980 is a split year production as ford went from I-beam to An A-arm style suspension. I feel that if you pull the suspension off and press the old pins out and match them to your replacement parts (I.E micrometer) you wiil find that 75-79 pins will more than likely be your choice.

The kingpins themselves are not pressed out or in. Rather, it's the bushings that require machining. Btw, use metal bushings unless you want to replace the optional nylon ones in as little as 40K miles.
IIRC, the kingpin thru-bolt is slightly lower and the kingpins are a hair shorter on the early spindles.
A helpful tip for next time: Don't trust your memory. When locating a suitable donor, write down the data plate info even before pulling off parts for your rig.

Or an even better tip, buy your donor, then you don't have to worry about the parts pile.
Should have written it down put did not plan on so many issues with the truck before getting to the conversion. Donor at home don't have the room. Guess I will have to try and mic the old ones, almost certain came from 75 to 79. I know they came from 79 or below but not sure about the 74-75 split. Was hopeing I could id thur calibers or maybe the shoes. If the difference is that small would it make that big of difference if I got the wrong one put in or would it not work at all. Thanks.
This may sound crazy but go to the JY and pull the kingpin from an early or later truck and compare your measurement. That should provide some clues.
To be candid, I recall seeing either in a catalog or on the web a comparison of late and early kingpins. For the life of me I cannot remember where I saw it.
Cool I will have to check tonght when I get home, thanks. I will let you know.
Just took a quick look and I have a 74 with the larger bump stop. I remember I wanted to get one close to my year thinking it would closer to the one on my 70 -100. Thanks again!
