Speaking of building I decided it was time to ditch the steps in favor of some sliders.
Need to protect the rockers on the trails but also need steps so this was what I came up with.
They are build from 2"x2" .25 wall and 1.5"x1.5" .25 wall square tubing.

I am looking to do some more challenging wheeling, hence the protection! haha
Yes, they will support the weight of the Bronco, I tested them with my floor jack and was able to lift the whole side of the truck from one point.
Hey Dave, how are those nice sliders mounted? I've still got chains under my 78 and no one likes using them. I've seen 2 cases where steps have been broken off due to coming down into a stub or rock. Both the steps I had and the chains I have now are mounted to the Rocker under the body which I'm not a huge fan of. I've seen some rock sliders welded to the body but that was an Early Bronco that doesn't see much dirt time.
Ran a nice trail yesterday with Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers, primarily a Jeep club but a real good group of guys, only a few snobs lol
This trail is generally ran by guys with lockers and I must say it would have been much easier but we made it through!
Got a bit stuck here, I slid down off the rock and pinned with 1 rock in front of the front axle and 1 behind the rear, a locker sure would have been nice here lol
I thought for sure we were going to watch you smash the passenger rear quarter panel. Nice driving! It's inspiring to see a 78/79 thats as nice as yours is out on the trails. Once you complete the engineering of your OBO you could go back and put some ARB air lockers in the axles. I'll be waiting to read your step by step on both projects. You help keep me inspired while I'm laid up and can't do the heavy work my Bronco needs. Thanks for all of your updates.
Big ***** taking that fresh paint job through there! That's why mine is getting a coat of satin black. No point building it if you can't play, right?
Haha, I am just looking a reason to respray and fix some of the mess ups I have in it.

Thanks man, yes they will and they got broke in that day, beta testing complete!

You bet man, here comes another one
Scored big time today!
Found a '07 Dana 60 for $250!!!
Who can pass that up?
I have been wanting to raise the pinion but didn't want to not have the Bronco for a couple of weeks while I did it.
So now I can build this axle and get it ready then just swap it out, plan to put a locker in this one, possibly a simple lunchbox.
The reason it was so cheap, the passenger side outer C weld broke, saves me work since I needed to cut it off anyway!
