Question Wheel size/back space question

Howdy everyone! First post...long time lurker...lol. I've recently purchased a '69 HB...well...it's a '69 body on a '78 frame and had the springs transplanted, so it has discs and the "good" power steering. My question is probably pretty simple, but in my searching I've come up with more than one answer; so I figured I'd just ask.

I want to run 33X12.5x16.5 rubber...mainly because I found 2 sets with 80-90% tread for $200...giggity...and I'm not sure about the rims. I know they have to be 16.5's...and the bolt pattern is 8x6.5...what I'm not sure is the correct or minimum back spacing to clear the calipers (not gonna shave them). I found a set of good ole black wagon wheels that I like which have a 4.75" backspace...seems like an awful lot...??

I look forward to learning more...and I appreciate any and all assistance.

Thanks - Swash

4.75" backspace is about normal and will work fine but I would avoid the 16.5's like the plague. The reason the tires are so cheap is because no one wants them anymore. 16.5 wheels are pretty much boat anchors these days. Cut your losses now and get some 16, 17, or even 18" wheels. Very few tire manufacturers are producing 16.5 tires these days and as the molds wear out they are not investing in retooling them. Fact of the matter is, 16.5's are becoming extinct.

+1, they suck, i know from experience. I have the 16.5's on my truck. Going down to a 16 VERY soon.. (72 F250)

Thanks for the feedback, guys...I appreciate it. I agree, and would rather have 16's, but I found the two sets of tires for dirt cheap and I also just happened upon a free set of wagon wheels. They are just a temporary solution, but I was concerned about the back spacing.

Thanks again!
