I will preface this with saying that I know NOTHING about vehicles. I have my dad's 1977 F-150. The only vehicle he purchased new. I am trying to keep this running for my son. Recently, I have a vehicle that died with new P265/75R16 tires on it, that I would like to get on the Ford, which now that 15" rims on it. What would be the recommended rims to put on the Ford to use these tires? My son has been hoping to put larger tires on it. The 15" look rather small on the vehicle now.
Any wheels off a newer F150 up '96 being the last year will fit. The bolt pattern is 5x5.5. You could look for used wheels on craigslist in your surrounding areas or vehicle parts yards, or some new aftermarket wheels are really pretty reasonably priced and can change the whole look of the vehicle. IMO figure out what you want to spend on it, shop around.. is craigslist, summit racing, jegs performance, discount tire direct etc etc..
I have a '77 F250 that looked just ho hum...with the black steel wheels, I put drilled aluminum wheels on it and the po sent me a msg telling me how much he liked it...

Thank you for your information. For the tires I have listed above, would that then require an 8" width rim? Sorry for my ignorance!
Along with all the awesome correct advice, hit up a junk yard for some stock steel rims. AKA "steelies". Yes bolt pattern 5 on 5 1/2, maybe a local tire shop ask for some "take offs" to get some 16's maybe cheap.
Its very easy to make a stock steel rim look sharp with a little imagination and some spray paint. That get's the son involved and might spark his interest a whole lot more.
What ever the over all truck color is, find a good opposite for the outer part of the rim and then the same truck color for the inner and then some chrome lug nuts, a chrome outer beauty ring, or even a hub cap that is painted to look good and wala cool rims for cheap.
Keep in mind that the load range for a truck tire is different than the load range for a car tire. Although these tires will physically fit on a truck with 16" rims they may not be rated to carry the load the truck will carry

They are currently on a '99 suburban, so guessing the load range would be comparable?
Is it 2wd? Tell him big rims and tires eat gas mileage, and cost more money.
Yes those tires will work ok, just might not be big enough for the son's liking.
Thanks for the info. Just trying to utilize tires that we have. Certainly, we have never driven the Ford for it's fuel economy. He is actually looking to install a 37 gal reserve fuel tank to replace the rear tank. If only one could afford to fill that, it would go a ways.

Oh boy now you are in for it...lol First its bigger tires and new wheels and then a lift kit and then bigger tires and maybe new wheels then....and then...and then.
No worries we are right here for you along the way with tons of good...well free advice. lol

Don't I know it! HaHa! Thank you for the helpful comments!
So, this one's right up my alley. I have about 10 years in the tire industry before a career change.
P265/75R16 = (est.) 32x10.50R16
Load Rating = 2250 lbs to 2400 lbs (depending on mfg) Plenty for a 1/2 ton truck as long as you are not loading up the bed and towing any real heavy loads.
Stock 16" rims for the Ford 5-5.5" pattern = not so easy to find, as Ford did not start running 16" stock wheels until 1997. Unfortunately, that is the same time they swapped to the metric 5-135mm pattern.
There should be plenty of used steel and aluminum aftermarket wheels in the used market though.
