Yes you can use a Vgt. You would just have to take off the electronics and rig up a wastegate type actuator or a spring type of setup to contol the vanes. Do some research on it and you will see a lot of cool stuff. I think CompD has a lot of info in the Cummins section. Also Fleece Performance sells an electronic controller that would make it work for our engines. Its like $700 iirc though. Its a cool setup but I think I would just contol the vanes mechanically or pneumatically.

Just an update. I've got my 6.9 stripped all the way down and degreased and powerwashed. Would've had all my gaskets, head studs, oil and fuel pump ordered but my great grandpa pasted away this weekend so it's been a busy couple days. I figure it'll be sometime later this week when I get it all ordered. Hope to get the cam off to NMB2 and my pump and injectors off to DPS within the next 2 weeks. Then it'll be off to the salvage yards and ebay/craigslist to look for a Vgt turbo

along with searching the web looking for the best price on a water meth setup and ordering my flexplate and Torque Converter.
