glad your safe ..I have had 3 of my ford's flip the hood .. my 55 Meteor tore the hood right off...always been operator error ..in my case ..too much bondo and rust on my present ford to do that ..

mech didn't it have the second / safety latch ??? i had to adjust and tweak both of the latches on mine as no matter how dain hard it got slammed down it would not latch completely . a little of my time later it was fixed . never had any problems . won't go much over 55 for long as she was wound tight then , but she rode pretty rough with them big **** overload packs on her so it got bounced around good . or maybe my truck , and now the 52 customline are weirdo's and got two latches as A: the factory put 'em on to confuse the hades out of a very few , or , B: maybe it was removed by a previous owner ???? mine was in the glove box as it was broken . a little fab time and some welding rod it was fixed and the previous mentioned tweaking .................

Yep, there and operational. I have no idea why the hood opened past the safety latch, but it did.
