Power window motor replacement?

I have an 1989 F150 XLT 4x4. I powered down my driver side window last night and when I went to power it up, the damn thing just would not go. No warning just quit. I tore the door panel off the next day and proceeded to investigate. I pulled off the drivers switch and replaced it with the passenger switch since I know it works and same thing. Next I put the drivers switch on the passenger side and it works just fine. switch good motor bad? Whats the easiest way to get that damn motor out? Looks like ford did not want any one but them to replace it. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Power window motor replacement?

You have to drill out all those rivets that hold it in then release it from the window regulator.

Even More fun is experienced when replacing the motor.

Maybe try our Search feature by typing Power Window motor replacement in the Year of you truck forum.

This is more of a *part replacement*problem, than a electrical trouble-shooting problem.

I don't know about your paticular year truck but there are usually three indentations in the door panel that need to be drilled out big enough to get a small socket in. After drilling out the indentations you will see the bolts holding the motor. Insert the socket and remove the three bolts. Reach in and pull out the motor after unplugging the wires.

Power window motor replacement?

I found a place called South Florida Window Lift that sells parts incuding the gear assembies for electric windows. what usually fails in fords is the cushions in the gear assy or the gears themselves, Or get new motors. watch your fingers.

Power window motor replacement?

6Z99999;

Just found your post, and don't know if you solved your problem yet, but I think you'll find that the window motors are the same throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's on virtually all Ford models, except for being left and right.

I used the motors from a '74 LTD wagon when I converted my '86 F250, and having taken all four, had a spare that was used on my '95 F250. Everything just plugged right in.

Once the rivets are out, I used 1/4" x 3/4" SS cap screws and nylock nuts to hold it all together again.

Rick

Edit: I found it easiest to put the cap screws in thread first, with the nuts on the inside of the door, and put them all in place prior to tightening the nuts. You may want to consider masking tape over the various openings as the edges are rather sharp.

I installed 1/4 20 rivnuts in mine so I only had to line them up and stick in the bolts.

Good job. I love those things, but they're SOOOO hard to find locally. I used them for the mirrors I put on this truck.

Power window motor replacement?

I've got a stock of both thin sheet and thick stock nutserts, I get them from McMaster-Carr or KAR products, I've got an installation tool I bought when I was in the Army, I used to have a rivnut tool also but I didn't need it as much and I sold it to a warrant officer who was getting into building race cars. They aren't hard to find if you know where to look but then I'm used to looking for the hard to find.

Eastwood has plenty of them, but don't need bulk and don't want to pay shipping on a handfull.

Lightbulb Power window motor replacement?

Had the exact same thing happen on my 89 f150. The motor was still good, the gear on the regulator flexed, (whole assembly), toward the inside door panel and the teeth were not meshing properly with the teeth on the motor. The whole works jammed up and acted like it was the motor. Removed the motor from regulator and it worked fine. Reinstalled and have not had a problem since?? Happened when the window was rolled all the way down.
