i have an older 91 Ford ranger xlt 2wd supercab. It needs some work but thats not my real concern. I need a toy. meaning 4wd mud toy. How hard is it to convert to 4wd or even getting a 4wd chassis and moving bodies around? Ive also thought of using an older f150 chassis and the ranger body. Its mostly for cheap fun would like to keep cost to a minimal as we all do. suggestions, comments, ideas? Greatly appreciate the help
This topic comes up often. It is nearly impossible to convert a 4x2 chassis to 4x4, but it is fairly easy to swap your body onto another chassis that is already 4x4.
Use what you already have and do a solid axle swap (SAS) and go from their. It is not totally impossible to convert it over but you would need the cross member under the engine for the swap if you was to go to the TTB Suspension. Which I wouldn't do cause it is very time consuming. If you was to actually do the sas your axle choices to chose from are high. But remember if you do go this route you would need to either convert your exsisting transmission over to 4x4 or buy another already setup as well as a t-case and front shaft. If you can find them the early bronco's have the axles you need and are the same width as your current axles now.
would it not just be easier to put the body onto an older bronco chassis? I just like the comfort and style of the ranger. but looking for a camping slash mudder truck that parts are plentiful.
