I have a 1995 Ranger, Front wheel drive with a bad starter. I removed the starter, and purchased a replacement. The problem is, the wire that connected to the old starter doesn't connect with the new starter. It's different, but I went to autozone and strauss thy both said that the starter I bought is the right starter. They don't understand why it's different. Does anybody have any Idea why the starter that has been on my truck since I bought it in 95' would be different then the one that is trying to be sold to me?
The starter that was on my truck was connected by a wire coming from the truck onto a metal piece to wrap on, the new on has a wire on the actual starter and it's supposed to connect to the wire on the truck like a plug. I figured that at worst I could strip the wires and connect them that way but I want to know if any body has a better idea?
A front wheel drive Ranger? Are you sure you are telling the guys at the part counter the correct engine you have? All three engines for that truck use a different starter.
