Check the little wire and the solenoid before changing the starter. I did the same thing with mine, changed the starter first only to find out it was the solenoid later.
Pull the starter, clean it up (Ford Starters die real fast when get covered in oil & crap).
Check the braided copper wire from the solenoid to the starter, and then pull the starter apart and make sure you haven't cracked the magnet, and check the brushes. Replace the Brushes and the braided copper wire, put the whole thing back together.
Poof you have a brand new (rebuilt) starter for less that $50.
