1966 ford f250 4wd hiboy

I sent him an e-mail to ask a few questions and to tell him you could get a factory "highboy" in '61. He then sent me this:

"sorry to say that you are misinformed. If you bought one in 61 then it wasn't from the factory. the first factory hi-boy came in 66. check with other ford enthusiasts or you can even wiki it on the internet."

Redneck, I'm sorry but both of you are wrong. The term Hi-boy was created in the 70s around 74 +/- when Ford introduced a F250 4X4 with divorced transfer case, raising it higher than any factory entry prior.

It is a term for a 4wd truck up off the ground, can a 61 be called hi-boy absolutely, but the nickname didn't start until much later.

He is correct about rare, no one back then wanted one.

All 1959/76 F250 4WD's & 1977 F250 4WD's before serial number Y20,001 have a divorced transfer case.

While the term "High Boy" wasn't coined until the 1970's, technically all of the above are High Boys.

I was guessing in the divorced thingie, what was the change that jacked them up higher?

John

A 1 inch taller block in the rear and 3 inch wide springs up front. I will have to take some side by side pictures. My '66 is about as high as dad's '75.

Probably was said about the 70s rigs because they were more prevalent than the 60s 4x4s. 1" who could tell looking at one that it sat any higher than anyting previous. People probably didnt even know that the 50s thru 60s 4x4s were even around they were all out working in the fields, forests, mountains and way out of site from the general puplic doing work in hard to get to places. Just a guess on my part probably wrong but it wouldnt be the first time.

I just put '74 blocks under my '66 for 1" of lift. Turns out that they are only 1/2" taller.
