I need to replace my stock alternator on my 2006 F-350 FX4 DRW. I'm at the local parts house and the only one they have in stock is a 140amp unit that is supposed to be for a dual alternator system (top). My truck uses a 110amp and only has one alternator. It seems to mount and look like the one they have on hand. Do the top alternators of a dual unit system interchange with a alternator from a single unit system???
Here's the unit they have in stock:
Thanks! It looks the same in the pics but I wasnt sure if the mounting bolts and places the wiring hooks/plugs in would be the same. I'll go ahead and buy it then. The autozone girl didnt have a clue other than reading from the book and insists that it wont interchange. Since I have never pulled mine, I wasnt sure if it was an exact match. Thanks!
I will put it this way - the 140A alternator from Ford that is for the dual alternator set-up will fit perfectly in the single alternator configuration. I don't see why that from AZ one wouldn't also.
There was a S.S.M. about upgrading to a 140 AMP alternator to accomodate the demands of those who desired installing snow plow equipment. The S.S.M. also clearly stated that such an upgrade would be on the customer's dime.
