Buying Coolent

Well today I finally bit the bucket and went to Ford and got the gold coolent. I tried NAPA for the G-05 and they didn't have it in stock and it would take about a week to finally get to there store. While I was talking to the parts guy who retrieved my coolent we started to chat about some of the mistakes people have made with there trucks, like going to a quick lube place and they throw away the OEM oil cap and put theres on, then when they come to Ford and they wounder why they have to get a new cap and have so many problems.

Well while I was waiting to pay for the coolent (VC-7-B) I looked at the invoice, and of course I got a reduced price, since I've worked with this parts guy while I was in my military uniform and I also show my military ID (so I get the reduced price). While I looked at the original price of $17.75 and got mine for $14.89 for a gallon, I looked at the bill to section, and since I was ordering/paying at the same time they didn't worry about putting much information in that block. But what had me laughing was what the person put for city, and when I noticed it I laughed a little.

I'm slowly starting to buy parts from Ford/BPD and other sponsered sites to get my truck into what I can call my standards, of course most people would just go with just changing the oil and letting a service department do the major stuff, but being a mechanic in the military I like to have everything how I feel it should be.

You need a minimum of 3.5 Gallons FULL Strength to acheive a 50/50 mix in the end

Ya I knew that I need the 3.5 for the proper 50/50 mix. First off I was seeing how much I could get coolent and of course my next paycheck I'll get the rest of the coolent. This will also get me time to get a FULL stash of distilled water for flush/refill. I'll also be getting a new thermostat since I'll be putting fresh coolent in, I want to start off good. I'll also be getting a new coolent filter (once I get the part number for the coolent filter from NAPA).

Once I get all that done then I can really test to see if my oil cooler is starting to go bad.

Very soon I'll be taking my turbo out and cleaning the crap out of it, since I'm having signs of vains sticking.

If you want to save a few bucks, do the initial flush with the garden hose and then at least two more flushes with the distilled water.
