Catalytic converter
I recently purchaced a 1999 F150 XLT and was snooping around under looking at the exhaust system. I was amazed to see not only a gigantic muffler, but 2 catalytic converters that were welded in place. Is this normal? This could be very expensive if one of them goes bad. They would need to be cut out. Is this normal or just a blunder on Fords part ?

Two cats is normal. If they had just one, it would be rather large. Two small ones heat up faster than one large one so your emissions are better with the two small ones.
