first off, i have an 88' f150 custom, 302 5.0L manual transmission (4speed with overdrive).... with that being said, my speedometer is not working right. It only works when i have the truck in gear and i am coasting, but it is not accurate. When i have the gas pressed the speedometer will not move.
any idea's? i dont know much about fixing problems with my truck, but im tryin
What i've done is get a Dakota Digital 2 1/8 digital speedometer and solder it into the speed sensor wires coming from the speed sensor at the back drivers side of the trany. Of course there's gonna be changes at the stock instrument panel, but i put my own custom aluminum bezel to hold various gauges, in place of the stock setup It doesn't matter what kind of gear ratio changes are made, cause the gauge is calibrated by the measured mile.
A tach is easy to install. Look for the green / white wire behind the instrument panel, or run your wire from the coil. There's a green / white wire there, too. Separate it from the circuit and maybe the speedo starts working. Don't know if they both use magnetic fields to work or ohms of resistance.
