Hello everyone, I have a 78' with dealer installed A/C. It blows cold, and blows in good volume on high, but the driver's vent on the far left barely blows. I mean it feels like the lightest breeze when the blower is on high. The middle two vents and the far passenger vent blow like a leaf blower. Why is this? I have checked the ducts for holes/leaks. It's good as far as I can tell. Blockage maybe? Anyone with this problem or experience have some suggestions? Thanks for the direction!
Even though you've checked, my money would be the duct has holes in it. If it's like the factory air version the covering can deteriorate and fall apart.
My next guess would be kink or blockage.
Illustration Section 195, page 7 = Deluxe dealer installed A/C ("HUGE sweep across the entire right side of the dash, covering up the glove box") dash bezel and etc.
Verification required for OP's "dealer installed" A/C, because his truck may have the hi/lo vent system in addition to dealer installed Deluxe A/C, or...
If the A/C controls in the same panel as the heater controls: Factory A/C.
D3TZ-19893-C .. Left Air Vent Register-Use with: Factory installed Integral A/C, Hi/Lo Comfort Zone Vent System, Deluxe dealer installed A/C.
D3TZ-19C692-A .. Left Vent Connector / Use with D3TZ-19893-C & Deluxe dealer installed A/C only.
The register is the same, the connector and the tubing is not the same for Deluxe A/C vs factory A/C, Hi/Lo vent.
Well, found the problem. A huge blockage was in the ducting. I did find a hole in the duct. I disconnected the duct from the register, pulled it down to me(I was laying under the dash, feeling for leaks) when this mess shot out on to my chest. With the hole still unplugged and the blockage removed, the airflow was 100x's better than before. I put some duct tape on the hole and my drivers vent is in business!
NumberDummy- The controls are located under the middle vents, for what appears to me to be A/C. I have never heard of this Hi/Lo Vent system. Can you give me more info to verify this? I have the kind with two levers. One is the fan control, on the left, and the other says, "Off...Hwy...City." Temperature control? I know what factory installed A/C looks like because my Grandpa's 1976 has it.
What Ford dealer A/C has two levers, Off .. Hwy .. City & Temperature Control marked on the control panel? None that I'm aware of...it's gypo aka aftermarket A/C
Ford Economy A/C is not combined with the heater. Has a panel that mounts into the dash next to the extant glove box, contains two registers, two A/C switches with *****.
Deluxe A/C is combined with the heater, also has two A/C switches with ***** mounted in the bezel. The HUGE dash bezel sweeps across the entire right side of the dash, covering up the glove box.
There is a separate hang on glove box bolted to the bottom of the dash.
Factory installed integral A/C is combined with heater. The A/C controls are in the same panel as the heater controls.
