FORD: 2011 F-Super Duty
ISSUE:
Some 2011 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with 6.7L engines and 6R140 transmission may exhibit a 2-3 shift flare and/or malfunction indicator light (MIL) on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0733 and/or delayed reverse engagement, with a build date on or before 4/11/2011. Symptoms may be more evident or seem worse after an extended soak.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Inspect vehicle build date.
If vehicle build date is on or before 11/19/2010, proceed to Step 2
If vehicle build date is between 11/20/2010 and 4/11/2011, solenoid replacement is not necessary, proceed to Step 3.
Replace the three (3) normally high solenoids. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01B. Proceed to Step 3.
Remove solenoids in-vehicle, identify the service band required for LPC, C35R/SSB, C456/SSE solenoids. Do not remove the main control.
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) and the transmission control module (TCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 73.02 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.5 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at Buy Motorcraft Parts Online | Official Motorcraft Auto Parts Site | FordParts.com.
NOTE: PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

Took truck to get the shifting problem checked out and they did a service recall 12B33- pcm nox sensor calibration. No codes of any kind. They want me to drive it at least 300 miles to let tranny learn again.
I've experienced the exact same problem a number of times. I own a 2011 F350 with the 6.2L gasoline engine. On a number of occassions, mostly going up hills, when I pushed the accelerator pedal, the engine RPMS shot up to over 4000 with no response from the tranny. I had to remove my foot from the pedal and only then did the tranny shift back to where it was supposed to be. I took it to the dealer when it first happened (around 1200 miles on the OD) and the dealer found nothing wrong, i.e. no codes, no metal in the fluid, etc. The dealer replaced the fluid and updated the software at that time. However, the transmission has done the same thing a couple of times again, as recently as two weeks ago at around 8600 miles on the OD. I went on the internet and found that there is a Technical Service Bulletin discussing a flare between 2-3 gear. The TSB doesn't describe exactly what I have experienced but it is something to work with. I went to the dealership with the TSB in hand and am scheduled to bring the truck in next week for them to check it out with the TSB as a guide line. I'll update this message after the visit to the dealership
tranny troubles
Your symptoms are what I had with my 6.7 F-250. The truck would sit for a bit and then when I would start to off and easy on the throttle it would act like it is in neutral but the display showed I was still in gear. (2-3)
Took it to 3 different dealers and they all had suggestions. Had some flashes and even talk of the Solenoid but finally had it fixed with a flash at this one dealer. And that was it. Problem gone, shifting fine and it has been several months. Truck is a job 2.
So get it fixed and you won't have to worry about it happening at a time that might cause an accident.
