Yea, never again will I buy a VW. Unless I get another van for road tripping, and then it that case, I'll do the subaru motor swap in it and that should fix 98.56% of the problems with the VW!

I'd say go buy a vanagon and find out for yourself, but that's a harsh endeavor for anyone, and I don't wish it upon anyone either!

Went to put cables on the starter... the smaller stud snapped off the solenoid before it was even close to tight.
Made good progress on everything else though.

pete, how long has it been apart? what was your total investment to get it back together?
montana heavenjugs, why was it raining in bristol today? it made me angry.

Was raining down here to! Not enough to make it worth going out into the woods with the truck though!

some guy in my town is selling his truck that i pass all the time. 02 rc/lb 7.3, 6" lift/35s, 100k miles... to bad its rotted out

Been apart since Dec 6, 2010
My investment: 2.60$ for a few nuts and bolts
Total repair cost: ~3200$ including fluids I believe.
New parts list:
Head gaskets
ARP head studs
EGR delete
Oil cooler
Every o-ring I could get my hands on I changed
Coolant filter
Glow plugs
Glow plug harnesses
Oil pan
It will be getting Caterpillar extended life coolant after a thorough flush.
