I want to remove my power steering pump, and get a serpentine belt that will fit my 97 2.3 liter ranger. Problem is, NAPA says there is only a e belt to fit a ranger with NO power steering and NO air conditioner.
I guess I will just remove pulley from compessor to make the belt work without it, and with the power steering pump off.
Can anybody foresee issues with this? I may even just remove the whole compressor if it isn't too difficult. The steering rack leaks where the hoses go in, and I never looped the hoses so the pump has been running dry for 1.5 years now, and is starting to seize.
97 Ranger has a steering gear mounted on the LH frame rail powered by a power steering pump that is belt driven. Can't you just add p/s fluid to the pump reservoir?
Well a steering rack is close to $200, a new belt is only $30. Plus time to install a steering rack is much greater that a new serpentine belt.
The fact is I have been driving this truck wih no power steering since I bought it 2.5 years ago, i don't need the power steering.
I could add some steering fluid to the power steering pump but honestly I want more of a long term fix, without having to buy a new steering rack of course.
