Yes it's heated and I love it. I've been using a water heater alone and it works good until the temp. goes below 10°F, then I have to use the forced air furnace to supplement floor heat.
Is it still legal (per code) in your area to use water heaters for hydronic heating? We can't here anymore, which is why I have a tiny little boiler (Laars Mini-Therm JVS) now.
Hi Trent, I installed it 11 years ago and it's still legal here in Illinois. This is/was a temporary setup, because the boiler (sitting in it's crate in front of the manifold) was backordered 5 weeks and I needed to get heat in my shop so I just used the water heater alone. The original plan was to use the water heater tank as a reservoir, and use two pumps and two thermostats one that controls the tank water temp. and the other draws water from the tank when the floor thermostat calls for water from the tank. It reduces boiler cycles and you don't need a mixing valve. The water heater is rated for space heating. If it ain't broke........
Sorry for being long winded.
I love what you did with the heating Gavin & I'm sure you do too
I worked for a farmer from 1981-85 while I was in high school and college. We demoed the old concrete floor in his shop and used five 100' rolls of 5/8" soft copper tubing tied to the rebar and poured new concrete. We used an old water heater from his house to heat the floor...that next winter it was so nice to work in his shop.....and it's still working.
