I was curious if anyone has tried this paint before. The brand is Value Pro. It is supposed to be made by PPG. In the past I have mainly used PPG DCC and Omni but this is a relativly new brand to me. I have never had any problems with any of PPG products. The main reason I was considering using this is their Ford Red acrylic enamel is 93.36 a gallon and that includes 1/2 pint of their hardner. Compared to PPG DCC at 194.35 a gallon. I know you get what you pay for but if they are both made by PPG what are the drawbacks for choosing the Valu Pro. This isn't a question of should I buy the ebay paint or PPG.
Just curious if anyone out there has tried it before and if you have what did you think of the paint as far as durability, application and over all performance.
If you want to check it out it is on autobody supply web site, look under ici auto color. (not sure of the address)
I used the PPG OMNI TV stuff before and it was just fine. I also use some PPG industrial stuff before that was $75/gal and it worked even better but I don't remember the name. It was sold as PPG industrial coatings.
The OMNI sprayed a little thicker but that was probably my mixing. It wet sanded just fine, but seemed to be a little softer than some others but that's hard to tell for sure. The overall color and finish was great, but I think it took a bit more to get the full coverage that I was looking for compared to other paints.
With any brand name paint you are paying for the R&D. Many dollars are spent on developing new paint and keeping the colors to spec so everyone around the world (Lamborghini factory- did I spell that right?) opens the same can of paint. To defray the costs PPG makes a less expensive line of paint. So, there is the PPG line of base/clear used on the Lambo and another line that is base/clear BUT, does not have the good color matches because less time and money was put into the development of the paint. I have noticed also that the more expensive paint has better qualities such as flow ie less orange peel. That means you get a better gloss. I am always on the look out though for less expensive paint. Let's face it we are working with a few products that are made by fewer people. I think the cost of this stuff is crazy. If the product is PPG I would expect results same as the PPG global line, again a less expensive paint. I know that PPG has been on a buying spree purchasing industrial coating companies such as Philips. I wouldnt be surprised if some of these paints are coming out of that. If anything, the paint would be good for parts painting and inside fenders, under hoods, rims, bumpers, etc...
