the 56 has a shorter steering shaft and column. I think the steering wheel is different too. I have what must be a 53-55 box in my 56 because I have about a 1 inch gap between my steering wheel and column.
Okay that makes sense I thought it was shorter but was not sure if using a 53 wheel would cause issues. Guess I am on the hunt for a box then or pulling mine.
catt is right and if you want to run a custom wheel or another factory wheel of some type with a dish geuss which one you need ...............other wise your stuck with a flat wheel or the wheel stuck in your face ........... 56 is 2 inches shorter if i remember right .
Hi ,
My parts book shows that the 56 steering shaft is 1 3/4" shorter than the 53-55 steering shaft. I believe you could probably use the complete 56 box and column as long as you also use the 56 outer tube. The 53 steering wheel should fit onto the 56 shaft but it will be 1 3/4" further away from you. Maybe a good thing if you have a big belly or if you have short legs and can't reach the peddles. The 56 is probably shorter to make up for the dished steering wheel.
I don't think you have anything to loose by trying it.
Good luck.
I like the flat wheel as it has the 50th anniversary logo think its a cool point about the truck
The wheel has no logo, it's on the horn button. But...only the 1953 horn button has the 50th anniversary logo (1903/1953). 1954/55 horn buttons do not.
