Question for those with efuel.. my pump which is a SD pump sounds like it is cavatating or trying to suck air.. all clamps are as tight as I can get them along with the filters.. I thought that it might be because my pump is mounted lower than the filter heads and air is being trapped in the top of the prefilter.. but after looking at a bunch of other builds most of the pumps are lower than the filter heads.. I hold 65psi of pressure which is were the regulator is set, but every once in a while it will drop back to 62ish which is when I can really hear the pump make noise.. any ideas?
I had a thought while at work today.. I have never seen how the pickup and return are inside the tank.. but is there a possibility that since the electric pump moves more fuel that the factory mechanical pump that there is to much turbulance at the pickup that is affecting the pickup... ie that the pickup and return are too close..
On the OBS system (fuel filter - pump - regulator) only a portion of the fuel actually goes back to the tank. Most is recirculated through the filter again and it was designed that way to keep large quantities of hot fuel from recirculating back to the tank, not a good thing.
It could be a turbulence thing or maybe just hot fuel is thinner and the electric pump has trouble moving it efficiently ... don't know, just a theory.
Hussler.. I doubt it would be a hot fuel thing seeing that it does it from the time the truck starts til the time it is shut off... the other morning momentarily it ran like a normal pump.. I heard nothing and got scared even though I had fuel pressure.. I had to get under the truck to make sure it was running and while I was under there it started making the noise... it is a brand new pump but that means nothing.. I am beginning to wonder if the pump is bad..
