Question 1997 Ford Explorer sport, control track 4WD

Transmissions seems to come out of gear when not under load ie going down hills. Will not find any other gears except for 4 low when this happens. Then I have to put into 4 high, and into drive quickly, and crawl until it engages with a clunk. Once working will change back and forth from auto to 4 high no problem. It will work in all ranges and all gears. Did notice overdrive light flashing at one point.
The only alarm I am getting is Cam shaft position sensor. Could this be related or something different?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!
