fuel guage

73 f250 cs, fuel guage works intermintantly, been using axillary tank, just got vehicle running, removed 2wire connector at sender cleaned off corrosion on terminals, truck has been sitting for 12 plus years
looking for ideas,

still looking forn source of problem, one time I drive, guage is not working, another time it works, checked fuel tank switch, has power,
please help looking for ideas

Pull the wire from the sender and short it to ground. Observe and report back what the gauge reads.

Also, do a visual inspection of the sender's wiring... Wiggle it around too.... could be a kink that intermittently opens or closes.

My truck sat for about that long and I had to change both sender wiring pigtails. They had green corrosion inside the connector.

2 wires going to fuel sensor, connected-shorted the 2 together, turned key on, guage full swept from empty to full, tells me a bad fuel sending unit
