I have a Job 2 '08 with 33,000 mi. Spartan tuned DPF delete for 30,000 of them. No problems at all until 1,200 miles ago. Driving home odometer went to all dashes, check engine light came on, battery light came on, and the read out on the dash daq lost power. Truck still ran until I got home and shut it off, wouln't crank at all. Head lights worked, radio worked, dash daq would power up, tried to pull codes it said no communication or something to that effect. Truck would not jump start, had truck towed to the dealer, they couldn't do anythig with it until they put new batteries in it. They said they had to use their computer to unlock every module individually. Two days of testing no problems. New batteries, problem fixed. Nope. 1,200 miles later same senario, except the cooling fan would run full speed every now and then, but the temp. was fine. I have never even heard that fan come on that hard. Didn't shut it off this time, drove it to the dealer. They worked on it for a day, so far no luck. Dealer is very mod friendly, and have treated me well in the past, just trying to do some research on my own. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
How long has it been since you loaded your last tune? All I can think is that maybe something got messed up when the modules were reloading off the tuner the last time. I would set it back to stock and then re tune to your setting to see if it helps at all. And it's nice to hear of another tuner friendly dealership out there, I'm sure you're well aware of that headache that has saved you. Good Luck
Thanks for the response. I loaded the tune about 1,200 miles ago, after it was out of the shop. They had me return it to stock so they could run all of their tests. The first time it happened, the tune had been loaded for about 2,500 miles. The strange part about the first instance, the batteries load tested good 2 days prior to my problem. When it was towed to the dealer, the tech said they were both junk. Don't know if they survived this go or not. Another wierd thing, when this starts happening the trans will not shift right at times, hangs in gear?
The tranny is electronic too so it's not too weird that it acts up at the same time. I'm not sure what to tell you, I'd say it's most definately electrical but could have to do with the tuner? Is this a new batch of tunes that you got or have you been using the same ones all along? Might be worth your time if you haven't already to jump on Spartan's forum and see if anyone else has experienced the same symptoms.
I think I know exactly what is going on with your truck. It is either a short in the cable from the OBD 2 port to the dashdaq (likely) or a short in the actual DashDaq itself. Try unplugging the dashdaq and cable from the truck, drive it and see if it still happens. If it does it again with nothing plugged into the OBD 2 port, it is a short in the actual truck itself. It is very easy to get the truck started again if it does this in the future. Simply disconnect, then reconnect the DashDaq and clear the codes, there should be a few stored. The truck should now start right up. My truck has done the exact same thing before, and by simply clearing the codes it would start right back up.
