Turbo question

I was out looking at the engine while the FICM is being repaired and I was looking at the turbo and it struck me as odd that there was this metal tube sticking off the turbo. Any info on what this is. The part I'm talking about is the rusted looking tube in the center of the picture.

Thanks everyone

I think it's the VGT control valve. Looks like it in the tech guide

Does something thread into the tip of it. You can barely see there is something within the pipe and it has a threaded hole. Not sure if anything is suppose to go there or not.

Thanks for the reply.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, that tube contains a piston that actuates back and forth allowing the vanes in the turbo to open or close?

Is that right?
