3 on the tree promlem

my 3 speed shifter is broken. Whould it be easier to replace the column or put in a floor shifter?

what is exactly broken? is it the part where the stick sticks into the column. if so then u can get one at the ford dealership or a junk yard. i replaced mine cause it was broken when i got the truck. if your truck is a 80-83 model with the 3 speed then the floor shifter for the tranny wont fit. when its in 1st or 3rd its right against your seat. i guess you could weld a longer stick on it thats bent differently. if you go the the ford dealership and ask for a print out of an exploded view of the steering column then you can see what you really need when you are tearing apart your column and you will have something to look at when puttin it back together. i had to replace the bearing in my column when i was in there cause it was gone. it aint that hard but just time consuming. the two tools you need to make sure you have is some snap ring pliers and a steering wheel puller. good luck.
