Tranny ID

How do I find out what Tranny I have? The trans was replaced a few years back and I have looked all over it and I can't find any plates or anything that tells what trans it might be. The truck is a 1994 F-150 with the 5.0 V8 and an automatic with overdrive. Thanks

count the number of bolts too.
e4od = 20 bolts
aode = 16 bolts
aod = 14 bolts
a4ld = 18 bolts

Simply look at the trans code on the calibration sticker on the drivers door pillar. There is little chance somebody would have replaced the original with a dfferent trans.. there are just too many electrical and mechanical differences, so the decal should tell the story. E = E4OD, U = 4R70W, T = AOD, these are the only automatic possibilities in a fullsize truck.
