460 CID engine rebuild/replacement advice

For porting, it's not absolutely needed, but it's well known that pretty much all Ford heads lack on the exhaust side. A couple hours work on the exhaust side can yield some good results.
With cast exhaust manifolds some short side radius work, a bowl blend and port matching will get you more drivability in terms of dollars/time spent IMO.
Since the kit you are looking at doesn't seem to include their aluminum heads and basically only has a carb & intake, cam, chain and valve springs...
What are you doing for fuel delivery?
What pistons are you thinking of?
What size valves?
Are you looking to run on regular or pump premium?
Who is going to do your porting and head assembly?
In the long run you might be better off with a plug 'n play fully assembled set of swap D3's+cam from one of the more reputable engine builders.
No one yet has any idea of your horsepower expectations or budget.
Well my brain pan is smoking, spent most of today studying engine rebuild. For simplicity and to ensure that parts matching isn't going to be an issue I think I'm going with the Edelbrock Performer Power Package for the 460.
I'm also going with D0VE headers which a neighbor has and is going to sell me. Anyone see an issue using this header with Edelbrock parts.
One question is in regard to porting, some on the forums say its needed, others not. From what I gather this appears more important on the exhaust side for this configuration. Can anyone comment?
Also there seems to be some issue regarding if a 600cfm Carb is better or a 750cfm carb is better for the 460. For my application, that is hauling a camper, which would be better. Has anyone tried the 1411 edelbrock carb?
