Not to be the tech police, but the speedo works off hall-effect magnets... The odometer is geared.

OK, I believe you are saying that although the the speed will read correctly the miles will not, correct? Wouldn't it be counting the miles too fast, 17.6% too fast or 1 mi when you've only traveled .85 mi, in fact? I just pulled the cluster out of my 79 because the speedometer wasn't working. I found a 100 mph head at a local wrecking yard. Turns out it wasn't hooked up at all but I'm still thinking of swapping the heads.

I swapped to the 100 mph in my 77 from an 85,, and according to GPS,, all is good,,, now when I went to 33's THAT changed the speedo!!

I mis-read. When you said it was "from an 85". I thought that meant from a 1985, I just realized it meant from an 85mph. lol.
Yeah I've seen the 73-77 100mph units, I've got a few. My bad.
