I've had this for over 10 years with no problems. There is no gear changing in the transmission necessary, as all the Ford speedos turn the same. its the internal gearing that changes the face calibration.

OK, I believe you are saying that although the the speed will read correctly the miles will not, correct? Wouldn't it be counting the miles too fast, 17.6% too fast or 1 mi when you've only traveled .85 mi, in fact? I just pulled the cluster out of my 79 because the speedometer wasn't working. I found a 100 mph head at a local wrecking yard. Turns out it wasn't hooked up at all but I'm still thinking of swapping the heads.
I mis-read. When you said it was "from an 85". I thought that meant from a 1985, I just realized it meant from an 85mph. lol.
Yeah I've seen the 73-77 100mph units, I've got a few. My bad.
