how do you pull the steering column

Have a 65 F350 - Need to pull the steering column. I have undone the bracket at the dash, unplugged the wiring, undone a clamp around the the bottom of the steering wheel. It's not really budging. Feel like I'm missing something?

I've never pulled the column on my '65 350, but I seem to recall that the entire steering shaft from box to splined end is one solid piece, so the steering box has to come out also?

I found this from the Parts book. It looks like to me it is the same as the 64 F100, and that one you remove all the upper stuff inside the cab, and then pull the gear, and all the shaft out the bottom.

Hope it helps.

I just had the column out of my 66 F100, there could be some differences but this should give you some guidelines.

Add to what you have done, remove plate on the firewall, then go outside and remove the one on the opposite side. Remove the shift linkage if it has column shift, remove bolts at rag joint. I suspect your truck has floor shift, so no issues there.

The column including the steering wheel can be removed in 1 piece.

No rag joint, I'm getting the impression it's to to go out the bottom w/ the steering box. Thanks Broomfield. Think it's likely time I track down a manual instead of blindly trying to figure this stuff out...

Remove the steering wheel.

Disconnect the bullet plugs or connector for the TS wires.

Remove the two bolts and strap at the dash mount.

Remove the screws holding the floor plate in place.

The column will just clear the back of the cab as it is raised off the shaft. It is tight but the F350 will not have shiift levers to get in the way. To gain a little wiggle you can remove the rubber bushing at the base of the column as you slide it up.

Excellent idea (getting the shop manual). I just consulted mine, and as usual the '65-'66 F-350 is different from the 100/250. The steering shaft is one-piece with the worm, so the entire steering box has to come out from underneath the truck.

Of course if you just want to remove the wheel/column, and not the actual shaft and box, that's easier (as posted above).
