The hardest part on my 71 was disconnecting the shift linkage (Automatic). You have to push the linkage out of a rubber grommet on the column. After disconnecting the shift linkage, I removed the steering wheel, disconnected the rag joint from the steering box (2 bolts), remove 3 bolts and a clamp from the firewall, 4 screws from the firewall (inside the cab), then the 2 bolts that connect the column to the underside of the dash.
That is the order that I did it in and it worked well for me. There are a lot of smart folks on here that may know the correct order to uninstall, but for the most part I believe those are the steps that you need to do. Of course there is electrical to unplug as well. And you might try WD-40 on the shift linkage grommet.
The only thing that I need to do now is remove the steering column flange from the bottom of the column. I have been able to disconnect all of the other steering linkages. BTW the truck is a 3 speed manual. THANKS!!!
