i don't think i would get lockers.. is it LS? limited slip is plenty for light off road use of a 2wd.. if you are buying rear lockers for a 2wd you may aswell just upgrade to a 4wd.. just my personal opinion though

But is the cost of getting lockers and upgrading to 4wd the same??? because converting to 4wd is a EASY 2000k project, and i dont think lockers will be 2k lol
haha is this for your 89 f250? i swear i see these pre 90's fords for sale all the time for 1k and under.. i just bought an 88 f150 for 1k 4x4.. i know you have a 250 but i looked at a 250 with a 351 the guy only wanted about 1400 for it.. just was too big of an engine for me.. don't need all that and it would go to waste in my hands because i don't pull more then maybe 1500 lbs.. (boat and trailer) and what i was saying before is does your truck currently have limited slip rear differential? if so that should be plenty to have fun in the mud..

If you spend 2K on a 4x4 conversion, you're doing something wrong, lol.
Shouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars. I'm doing the conversion on my truck eventually... Once I find a donor truck.

in his defense it does get pricey quickly when talking about older trucks.. start tearing down stuff and seeing things you weren't really going to replace in the process but things that need to be looked into.. can rack up.. happened to me changing my oil pan gasket.. had to lift the engine out so i could drop the pan.. well when i broke loose the two motor mount bolts and lifted it up.. one of the motor mounts just crumbled away and the other just wiggled around all over the place.. so right there was an additional 60$ i wasn't planning on but needed.. its the little things not the big things normally but man they rack up fast
I have to second Nick's $0.02 here. First off, a lot of things will break whenever you do major work. For example, the lugs on the starter wires can break off very easily when you go to swap the trans. The rear mount could crack from the stress of being unbolted. You might have to move some wires and pipes to make room for the 4x4 and end up having to replace them outright because they're too rusty to unbolt. And so on.
Secondly, even if you don't factor in the cost of your time and capital (tools, garage floor), I don't think it's likely you could do a 4x4 conversion for less than the difference between the value of your truck and the value of a factory 4x4 truck that you could buy. Just off the top of my head, a trans will cost ya at least $250 for a beat-to-feces one, the axle will be a similar amount of money, and so on. The price difference between 8gen trucks RWD and 4x4 is usually about $350-400 at the most, whereas the swap would cost you from $500 to $1500 depending on how many people in your area are scrapping old pickup trucks.
And to boot, if you go out and buy a factory 4x4 you're done in as long as you have to wait in line at the MVC office. No busted knuckles at all.

As Minnesota implied (inadvertently), it can take quite a huge time investment to do a drivetrain layout swap.
A gear swap can be done in half an afternoon for $100ish.
I dont understand why most of you have to jump on everybody that posts anything that is not exactly whet you feel is correct. I know its a public forum and when you post it is fair game , but jeez man . We are all supposed to be on the same team. I would expect this kind of crap in a forum with Chevy Ford and Dodge people. The guy asked for pics of 2wd lifted trucks. Post some pics or move on. The guy doesnt want to hear all your crap about how he should buy a 4wd. If he wanted one he would get one. Everybody knows you can get them for cheap. Prerunner trucks and half the CORR trucks are 2wd and will lay the smack down on any 4wd in here. And the poor guy that posted about the EGR valve mileage increase. Anybody that is a half way decent technician Knows how they work. If he says that he gained .5 mpg, then thats whats he gained. If you choose to try it on your truck or not is your deal. Your results may vary. And another thing Unless your Chip Foose or just as good , your not all that. Ive worked at several shops and all the owners thought they where the best. Ive worked with several mechanics , and they all thought they where the best. Guess what, nobody is. Get over yourselves. If you want to teach someone your trade , thats cool . Its not cool to come on here and act like your a FORD GOD . Come back at me all you want , Im not responding to this kind of negative crap. To the rest of you , Thanks for being helpful and being a positive influence.

Statistically speaking, someone has to be the best.
For the 2k price thing, it depends, on the deals you can find and the parts you choose.

Ya its for my 89 F250, and honestly idk if its lsd? How can i tell? ya ive seen a few donors 1k less, but i really dont need a 4wd, im doing the lift for my liking of taste and ya everynow and then i hit the mud haha.
there should be some numbers/letters stamped on it.. i can't remember the exact pattern but if you see an L i believe that means limited slip.. limited slip beats alot of the new 4x4's with just one tire spinning on rear and one on the front.. only really need 4x4 if you are in some serious stuff.. i barely ever used my 4x4 on my last truck and this truck will be no different.. problem for me is when i go wheelin we always end up breaking ****.. so its cheaper on me to just never use it=p
