Thanks for all the responses. i paid virtually nothing for the intake. hmm... the tune sound interesting. i noticed the tranny likes to stay in 1st gear linger than i would with a stick. i akso apreciate the tip on keeping it single. guess the 2v likes back pressure. Vonx... i like the way the magna flows sound. im torn btw the magna and 40 series. I reiterate... thanks for the advice guys.
In stock form the trans is very laggy with pillow soft shifts and a crappy troque converter lockup strategy. Plus the truck will not go into open loop at WOT therefore there is no WOT fuel enrichment to gain power and decrease the chance of detonation. If you have an intake already a tune is even more beneficial.
The V10 can sound kinda annoying with too small of a muffler or no muffler at all. A 3" single exhaust works and makes plenty of power.
Hi all! I have a 1996 f150 with the 5.8. Everything on it is BONE STOCK right down to the dual inline cats. I have listened to ALL that Flowmaster and Magnaflow have to offer on youtube and in person and don"t like either one based on one fact, they produce almost no sound with my application. Only exception was the Flowmaster 10 series.
I have talked with numerous muffler shops and all have told me the same thing. Neither flowmaster nor magnaflow make a muffler that will produce much difference as far as sound with my set up. None of them suggested I go with the FM 10. All of them however suggested the AP torpedo pack. I can"t find but one video on youtube illustrating this particular muffler. Does ANYONE have any experience with this muffler or know anyone that has?? I DON'T want to spend the $$$ to put dual exhaust on my truck if it's not going to make any sound. PLEASE HELP!!!!
IF your looking for sound exclusively... Cherry Bomb glass pack will help. It will give you marginally better flow and more sound. Have you checked out Gibson or Borla?
Yes, I have. I've been told they are expensive and will give no better sound quality. My ultimate goal is NOT sound. I am trying to up the MPG. I pull lawn equipment and only get 10.4 MPG at best. I don't want a loud system because I go into very nice neighborhoods very early in the morning. I just want one that will give me a "throaty" sound at idle and around town.
I can't put into words how much I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE cherry bomb glass packs. They have a "cheap" sound that I just don't like. I was wondering if anyone had heard of, had any experience with or knew anyone that had experience with AP's torpedo pack being that 4 different muffler shops had recommended it.
Your predicament is interesting because I am in the same situation you are. Im starting a landscaping company in Northern VA. I have been told the best way to get better mileage is to A. Slow down and B. get a tune from Mike @ 5 Star. I have never heard of AP, but I may be interested in seeing how it works out.
I am most likely going to save my pennies n get the tune.
Well, I just did a full tune up in August of 2011. I DON'T drive my truck fast or hard. You can put as much or as little weight behind it and it makes no difference in MPG. AP is located in Goldsboro NC and has been in business for 85 years. Until the 4 muffler shop guys suggested their product I had never heard of them either. I hope someone can help me because I'm at a loss.
