Got under the ol truck today and put in the valve body that I got from Riff Raff
Boy what a mess I got transmission fluid all over me. putting the valve body on was easy.
Just can't get why Ford can design a great cars and trucks but cant figure out how to put a drain plug on a transmission pan.
As anyone ever figured out the logic in what trucks got drain plugs? My '97 ext cab has one, my '96 reg cab does not. I know of a '97 reg cab that had the drain plug. All 3 are 4x4.

Ya I put a jw valve body in. it was real easy once the pan was down.
I know that allot of the guys say that the black deep pan that riff raff sells is a waste of money, but atleast it has a plug.

None of the OBS trucks came from Ford with a drain in the trans pan. Either someone added a drain kit like I did on my MonsterBox or someone replaced the stock pan with one from a 4R100 from a SouperDooty like the one that came with my John Wood transmission.
I fought that mess on my wife's truck when we did her shift kit. All I can say is I'm glad I've got a stick. Pull the plug on the bottom and drain a few quarts out, then pull the plug on the side and dump a few quarts back in and my fluid change is done. No valve bodies or such to mess with. If I want firmer shifts, I just let the clutch out faster
Don't feel bad though, there's no way to do this job and stay clean. I put a TransGo kit in my wife's truck. I discovered the kit was missing a certain spacer after I had done everything else to the valve body. The vendor was no help (don't ever buy from Oregon performance transmission), but transgo was nice enough to ship me a replacement part no questions asked. 5 days after I first dropped the pan, I finally put the valve body back in and the stupid thing was still dripping transmission fluid.
