80-86 / 87+ carpet differences?

What's the difference other than the 13-56 t-case? I've got a 85 with a ZF5, 87 transmission cover pan and soon to have a 13-56 t-case. Would an 87+ carpet fit better than the 80-86? What i have now seems to work ok, but it's old and beat up enough it's hard to tell and if I'm going to be getting a new one, I want to get the best I can. I know the 13-56 shifter is located differently and the floor pan is a bit taller for the zf5.

Thanks,
~John

Any 1980-1996 carpet should work. If you get it from an automatic 4x2 truck however, you may have to stretch the carpet to fit over the inspection cover.

All the catalogs list 80-86, 87-92 and 92-96 as different parts for carpets which is why I ask.

At least part of the reason for that is, at some point, Ford incorporated the highbeam switch into the turn signal (multifunction) switch, so there's no longer a hole in the floorboard carpet at that point.

I think that happened in 1992.

The basic shape of the cabs remained the same for decades, it wouldn't surprise me if 73-79 carpet fit OK, too.

X2, 80-91 all the same. 92-96 also the same, minus high beam switch hole.

You will need a carpet from a truck that had the tall inspection cover, as the flat floor 2wd autos carpet won't really fit in one with an inspection cover. You'll come up short on the sides.

But if he gets new carpet from LMC or whatever, he'll automatically have excess anyway, since aftermarket fit and form kinda sucks.

In that case, it wouldn't matter.

The 80-86 t-case shift is in the TOP of the trans tunnel , next to the trans shifter(if yours is manual)

The 87-96 t-case shifter is on the SIDE of the trans tunnel.

The only way to use a 87+ carpet in place of the 80-86 one is to get a 2wd one and you will have to cut the t-case shifter hole in the correct spot

Fordzilla, from what you are saying can I assume a carpet from a 1995 F150 4 x 2 with 4 speed manual would fit my 1980 F100 4 x 2 with 4 spd manual?

Thanks
