c6 differencess

I have a 1975 f250 with a divorced transfercase. I want to put a 429 in this truck with a c6.
Will I have to use a 4x4 transmission or will any c6 that bolts to the engine work?
thank you,

The Lincoln C-6 will be different, the rest should be the same.

Uh, the C6 is the same. The tailshaft housing may be different but a C6 is a C6 is a C6. You didn't say which T-case you have (BW1356, NP205, NP435, NP203) but any of them can be made to work with any of the others for the right price. If you want to run a C6 with a mated T-case, consider an NP205 transfer case with the tailshaft housing from a '78-'79 Bronco or SWB F150. (That tailshaft housing may also be found in more vehicles than that, but I know it does apply to those years/models.) That's the way the Bronco shipped from the factory and I own two of them... the tailshaft housing mounts directly between the C6 and the NP205. It's a rock solid mount and you should be able to score the transmission crossmember off the same donor vehicle that nets you the NP205 and tailshaft housing.

Transmission support in lower part of pic.

Here's the 400M/C6/NP205 I have for sale.

Another view of the crossmember and tailshaft housing. NP205 can be seen just in the top left corner.

You have a divorced trans and transfer case so you would need a High Boy C6. Probably not going to be easy to find. Some C6's have a tail shaft & housing short enough to fit in but there will be no provision for the transfer case shifter lever. You might be able to fab something up if you can find one. I always buy any High Boy C6's I can find if they are dirt cheep or free and remove the tail shaft and housing then sell them on ebay. They don't bring much money ( I never got $100 for any of them ) but they all have sold. This is what you are looking for.

mark a, Thanks for another lead on what to look for in the JY.....

Speedyweasel, whats your plan for those header's that almost dead end into the crossmember?

That was a while ago. Exhaust is run now.

It ain't pretty, but it works. That kinked left side annoys me and it rubs a tiny bit against the front driveshaft when it droops, but it's tolerable for now. I really wanted to avoid running that side under the crossmember, so this is one of only two options - the other is to run both down the passenger side gap you see in the first pic. This offers SLIGHTLY less restriction, but honestly it wasn't worth it... the manifolds are preferable to this setup.

Yea I wrestled with the same issues on a 78 F150 4x4 351m and a auto xmsn and some PO installed inside the chassis exit headers. I bought it not running and the headers were just put on with no exhaust system at all.

Was a night mare for sure....I will never use inside chassis headers again, fenderwell exits are tons easier to finish up. Thanks for the pics and explanation.

No problem. Been driving it for a total of about two weeks now. Discovered that the right side #4 primary is tapping the body mount at idle (I thought i had yet another loose transmission mount bolt) and the front driveshaft touches the left downtube. Should've stuck with the manifolds.

Oh yea forgot I had lots of d/s & left down tube contact, I would never suggest those style of headers to anyone.

Why not go back, to much time and money already spent?
