Does any one have a intermidiate housing to bolt up a 205 transfer case to a c6 that they are looking at selling. I guess there is two different sizes becouse the one i got form the junkyard is to long. Or does any one know where i can buy the shorter intermidiate housing. thanks
Does any one know if using the short housing will cause the front driveshaft to hit the trany pan. I have found conflicting stories about this. I'm sure that this is the same set up i ran before with no issues. Is this problem cause by lift kits on the truck before i didnt have any lift but i'm looking at puting a 6inch lift on the truck and dont want to get it all put together and find out that wont work. than have to get a new output shaft for the trany and run the long housing. thanks
Please post more info, truck?year? Current trans and t-case in truck? The front shaft should not even come close to the trans pan, if you are swaping a np203 with a np205 you will need to mod both driveshafts among other things, I may have what you need once we nail it down.
F.Y.I. , I am usng Skyjackers 6" kit and needed to address issues with drivesshafts and steering..
The truck is a 1978 ford f150 short box. It had a 351M which i pulled and now have a 460. The trans is a C6 and the transfer is the np205. both of these where in the truck before i took the whole truck apart 7 years ago before i joined the army. now that i have my own place again i'm working on putting it back together. some where in the process of moving the truck around i lost the intermediate housing. I picked up a long housing before know that ford made two different housing units. The output shaft for the tranny is the short out put and where my side mount for the transfer case is allso closer to the front so the long housing will not work. I'm looking at getting a 6 inch lift to run.
l will check when i get to my shop tomorrow, I think i have the same one as the photo in the begining of this thread,I will measure and let you know. Any chance you can get a measurement of your output shaft(whats exposed).
If you have a factory trans pan why would it get in the way? besides i can go look but i think your front DS drops far enough to the left. I think a 203 adapter will work also just mod for 205 shifter rail. I have a few different ones i think close to the length you requested.
IT WILL HIT!! Those short housings used the smaller u joints and yoke. I did it I know. If you have the smaller joints it should clear, if you have the wider yoke it will hit the side of the tranny. Where the longer one got out of the way was it was far enough back that it was clear of the back of the tranny. If you run the short housing you need to run the smaller yoke and smaller ujoints. This is fine in a half ton, In a 3/4 or 1 ton you run the lighter driveshaft to clear the tranny then run a conversion u joint on the front axle. I have a short and a long but I need to pull them and get them packaged to ship, not immediately available.
