I need some help decoding this VIN please. I'm thinking about buying this dump truck but there is no title available and the vehicle year is in question.
The present owner thinks it's a 1974 which in Alabama does not require a title but based on the front grille I think it's a 1975-1977 which does. Before I spend any money then find out I can't get a tag could you help me out with some info please.
Here's the VIN and the info from the Data Plate on the door.
hi guys. Seems like this is the best site for older heavy fords. I was hoping someone could help me decode my f750 vin. F75EVW90367
its not the original engine, but once I start on that I'm sure I'll be begging for help then. Thanks in advance.
L = Allison Transmatic model AT-540 6 Speed Automatic Transmission.
HQM:
HQ = Eaton model 17121 Single Speed Rear Axle / 7.17-1 / 18,500 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.
M = Ford 7,000 lbs. Capacity Front Axle with Power Steering.

25,500 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
520274:
52 = Dallas TX Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
0274 = Domestic Special Order number, truck special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
thanks! I was surprised to see the "candy apple red" for the color. The interior paint is some kind of industrial yellow, so I'm assuming they stripped it down and did a through job. I'll probably go back with the same color to avoid the extra work. I'm looking forward to getting the info for the engine. I know it's not the original. Again I appreciate the help. I must have looked at ten or more vin deciding sites with no progress.
Thanks so much for the reply. I have been looking all over for what those numbers mean. I was assuming I had a 390, but your saying it's a 361? I has a 4bbl carb on it now, but someone just used an adapter plate and bolted up an edelbrock 1405. I want to know all I can about the engine and exactly why it is for when I order parts. Also what to expect as far as troubleshooting or potential issues to look for. Numbersdummy was a huge help with the truck info and I'm glad to finally know what's actually in my engine bay now, lol
IMO, get rid of the 4bbl with an adapter. How do you get the 4bbl flow down 2 holes?
A Ford or Holley 2bbll will provide all the flow that motor needs, and run cleaner especially at idle and low speed.
Troubleshooting will be by sight and sound for the most part. Look for leaks and listen for knocks. Common issues: Most '75s are done and gone, so just about anything could be worn, near worn out, or recently replaced.
What info do you need on the engine? The block casting number indicates a 1966 casting number (C6ME). The intake a 1975. (D5TE)
24 DIF: Mold number 24 at the Dearborn Iron Foundry.
5F8 could be the date code for 1975, June (6th month corresponding to "F", the sixth letter of the alphabet, and 8, the 8th day of that month.
Ed, there is no way to ID an FE or FT engine size by the casting number.
With a block casting number prefix of C6ME, it could be a 352, 390, 410 or 428 FE engine, or a 330 2V Medium Duty FT engine, because all these blocks were cast as 352's.
Plus, with the C6ME casting number prefix, the block was cast June (F) 8, 1965 (5). The 1975 D5TE 4V intake manifold was swapped to this engine.
By the time the C6ME bare block had seasoned and then was finished by an engine assembly plant, it would have been installed in a 1966.
1967 casting number prefix: C7ME .. so a C6ME casting prefix is 1966 related.
OK, I was thinking this is the OEM engine. Based on the previous thread and after thinking about it for 10 seconds, it is doubtful if not impossible that Ford used a C6ME block for a 1975 truck. (seems obvious don't it?)
So OP has a "rebuilt" engine perhaps.
It is possible he has FT bits on an older block.
Pictures would help. Also measure the diameter of the crank snout. And, what type engine mounts? FT mounts are a single center mount off the front cover and side mounts off the bellhousing.
Note OP says the 4bbl is on a 2bbl manifold via an adapter if I read his post correctly.
Numbers dummy beat me to it! Lol. The intake had been changed to a Ford 4bbl. The adapter I mentioned was for the edelbrock carb to mount. The points conversion link was great btw. I will be doing that for sure. I'm doing freeze plugs today and will take a few pictures of the engine. Hopefully figure out what I'm actually equipped with. I want to keep the engine that is has as long as there's no major issues. I think if it ever grenades I will explore a diesel swap. Shouldn't be to hard to find something that will work with that Allison transmission.
