Popping
I've got a 1984 302 out of an E-150 with a 2bbl carb. I've eliminated the AIR system and removed the EGR valve. I installed it in a 1990 ranger. engine starts right up but has a steady popping in the carb. I've checked timing, air leaks, firing order. idle is nice and smooth but if accelerating back fire thru carb. carb has been rebuilt, could the power valve being bad cause this?

Timing off or crossed plug wires could be the cause. Also, a non working accelerator pump in the carb could cause a lean condition and popping thru the carb. Look down the carb with the engine off and make sure it is squirting gas when you open the throttle.
