i got a holley carb i forgot the number but it is 600 cfm vacum sec..ok i bought it new run it on a older ford engine for a while it ran grat but a few times afterwards had a few backfires and it started to mess up..what happen it seemed it runs then it starts pouring gas out of the top of it toward the to-p front of the carb..would anyone know could this be the powervalve?..blowed..or is this something else..thanks
I think the gas pouring out is the float adjustemt , holleys are hit or miss somtimes they need a adjustment out of the box somtimes they dont .
Rule of thumb is set the float that way it is correct for the other adjustments .
You also said that it was back fireing . First correct the engine base timing and then mess with the carb .
Some holleys come from the factory with the powervalve blow out protection so you may want to check the numbers on the carb to see if it has the protection .
I would buy a new power valve and replace it AFTER you fix the engine timing .
If you take the carb out of it to set the float level or rebuild it, check the underside. If you see something that looks like a little ball bearing trapped in a collar, the carb has a power valve blowout protector. If there isn't anything like that, you can install one. They are available from Holley direct, or anywhere that sells Holley carbs.
