Are there any approximate tuner power levels where the stock intake becomes restrictive?
Can some be gained with a hi-flow filter in the stock canister, and if so, what power level will this be compatible with?
What power level just flat out requires a CAI?
The stock filter will support up to 150 HP gain, after 200 HP gain the CAI is required otherwise you constantly suck the filter minder down. I played with the high flow filters and found they were a waste of time couldn't find one that could flow enough so i went to a CAI. FYI, I have tried several CAI S&B, AFE stage II with the cold air tube and the volant. Out of all of them the volant performed the best for me. The volant gave me the coolest intake air temp before and after charging.
I have only a 35HP tune with a stock air filter. It keeps sucking mine down to about halfway on the filter minder. Tried a new stock filter, did the same thing. Doesn't that mean I need more air flow?

I agree Stanley. I had mine getting sucked up when my truck was all stock. It's an early Job 1, if that makes any difference. Maybe the filter minders are different/more sensitive on early trucks? Once I went with the CAI, I never had an issue with any power level.

If its sucking the filter minder halfway down, its time for a CAI

Yes, that is very strange! Adding just 35 HP should be done easy with the stock filter... I guess the stock filte is not dirty, right?

Well, I considered that possibility and went and paid the ransom Ford gets for a brand new filter. It does the same thing. Although I am finding that I have to stand on it pretty hard to get it to do it.

You can also use a drop-in filter in the stock box (it is already a CAI box, right?).

AFE, GREEN filter are examples
The box is stock, I guess we could call it a Cold Air induction box. It has a drop in filter. So, I could just order the filter. Are we sure it filters enough to keep me from injesting any unwanted "stuff" and sanding my turbo?

I think that the 2 I mentioned are doing a fantastic job. I have my filter now for 30k
