I have a 95 f150 4.9 5 speed manual and it is so slow! Can anyone tell me why the 4.9's are so slow? And i know it doesnt help the truck as a 4.10 rear.
prepare to be flamed! the 300 is a truck motor, its all ***** down low. its not a high horsepower screamer. i hope you didnt buy that truck to race people and go fast with. that kind of attitude will leave you very disappointed. i love my 300. its no rocket ship, but its got plenty of pep around town for what it is; AN OLD PICKUP TRUCK

I didnt buy it for the speed haha it just gets annoying watching people wiz by you on the highway while your stuck at 55. I have never had a chance to tow anything heavy so it would be nice to try that and see how big its ***** are.
haha i just bought one recently, trust me i know this thing is slow but damn if that motor doesn't pull.. and 55? if thats all yours is running you should get it checked out..
Great motor. Just about as close to a diesel you will get. For sure not fast. But trust me it will pull and haul. I have had ALOT of weight behind it. A dual axle car 16' long trailer that had 6' with of wet treated pine deck wood. So a lot a weight. Pulled so amazing.it just pulled perfect I was very impressed. It has never let me down

"see how big its ***** are" thats funny as hell. if you can only do 55, you might have some issues which would explain why you think its so slow.
Our 94, 4.9 5 speed with 3.08's blasts on down the road like nobodies business. It stock size tires and this combo has plenty of grunt to get the truck moving and keep it moving. I too would have to say there is something wrong with your truck if you are stuck at 55. Our will cruise a t 65-70 no problem. I drove it around the other afternoon and was having a good time shifting through the gears and just enjoying the truck.
I'm near philly.... Lend me the truck for a week and I'll turbo it for you.
You're only an hour away from me.
I've wanted to do it for about 5 years now.

Reason: Location
If you have the 5spd trans (with overdrive) you should certainly be capable of more than 55 MPH, even with 4.10's. I'm not sure what the O/D ratio on the M5OD trans is, but even if it's only 20%, that would make a big difference on the highway.

I can hit 90 but anything over 55 the rpm's just sound like its going explode haha.
So, is your complaint that it's screaming at freeway speeds or that it takes forever to get there? With 4.10s, it should hustle along pretty well (as well as you're going to get out of that engine, at least), but yeah, you're gonna be killing it at freeway speeds.
IIRC, my 90 F150 with the 300 and 5-speed ran about 3 grand doing 70-75, and it sounded like you were killing it. It had 3.55s in the rear. I looked into re-gearing to 3.08s (even bought the gears), but the cost to do the swap right combined with losing what little acceleration the truck had turned me off to it.
