CEL on / off

My CEL will pop on and the truck will start to slow down and there is a great loss for power for only about 30 40 secs then the CEL will turn off and then the truck will regain power. Its only happend twice when i was going about 50 to 60 mph.

Its only a once in a while thing. but it worries me, What could it be to cause the CEL light to pop on and then shut off? What should i check all to insure that it doesnt happen.
Will any codes comeon if the CEL is off?

I believe that the PCM will store the CEL codes even after the CEL turns off.

I would think that there will still be some codes in there, have them read and see what you come up with.

Yep, codes will be there, get them and we can see what we can do.

Well, I went to advance to get codes read. No codes becasue the CEL poped on and off. Took it to my buddys who has a nice snapon scaner, was throwing every code for every part. Went back to advance had them check the alternator, Ended up being a bad alternatior.
So its running good so far.

For future reference, standard auto house scanners won't read our trucks...

Well this morning I drove to work no problems then let the truck idle for like 20 mins then went to school. On the way the cel came on and the power went way down and would go over 30 mph. The volt gauge was in the normal though. I'm gonna go see if I can get the codes read at my buddys after school.

I don't really know how to explain it. It like slows down the rpms will go up but speed and accceleration won't. Its like the powers down and maybe feels like its running on 4 cylinders.

Check fuel pressure and oil level.

If the hpop runs out of oil the light will stay on though.

Sounds like a fueling issue to me.

Double check injector harnesses.

Check map hoses for leaks or blockages. Map sensors will really screw with our trucks.

And the last thing i can think of is cps going bad. Swap that if you got a spare. If you dont have a spare, better go get one.

How do i test the fuel pressure?
I know where the HPOP fill point is how do i check it?
What do you mean injectors harnesses where are these located? like when you say check them. like check for rips tears or burns ?
then map sensor? what is that and where is that?
Sorry for all the questions, but i dont know alot about theses engines.

Have the guy with the scanner do a buzz test & tell us if there are any Codes stored in the IDM . If so , write them down ...

Yesturday he did the buzz test. the truck was throwing codes for everything, Ill try and take it over there today and see if it changed with the new alternatior.

If I were you, I would get a pad and a pen and write down what the specific codes are.
