i have an 2001 4x4 5.4L F150 full towing package i have recently purchased and i know that these truck are not known for their fuel milage but i will be taking a long trip and need to pull a small sudan my question is will this truck be able to pull it THAT far i know it can pull it but will it make it a good 1000 miles if i need to. any help would be great. thanks
Are you trailering the sedan?
If the truck is in reliable condition then you can pull across the continent and back.
Watch your temps especially the transmission temp.
A temp gauge can be installed for it in less than an hour.
A transmission cooler can also be installed in about the same amount of time.
On a separate note;

well im either goin to pull with on a trailer or with a dolly idk which would do be better for this truck i have pulled a dolly many times but just around town with my father truck 08 f150 4.6L and it did ok but struggled and it already has the trans cooler it came with the tow package from the factory. im thinking about adding a programmer and i have some air bags that i pulled off a super duty to help but we will see i have like 3 months left to get this done tho.
A dolly would be less weight to pull.
Go ahead and get a temp gauge for the trans.
While you're at it oil gauges (pressure & temp) are good to have also.
Those three give you a watch over what I consider the most critical items.
I assure you that theF150 is more than capable of towing that tiny load anywhere you want.
Struggle and working are two different things totally. A truck pulling will not be a sports car. Remember to tow with overdrive off and let the motor rev! It redlines around 6k rpm right. Let the little small block rev and do what it does best. Work.
Here is my 97 earlier tonight.
And another
You just need a strong hitch.
And a good transmission cooler. Specifically a stacked plate transmission cooler. The brands I recommend are Derale or B&M. I havea B&M because Amazon had them for less than 50$ at the time. Please don't go for the cheap finned model. Your only saving 15$ or so and the stacked plate models do so much better.
Make sure your brakes and cooling system are up to snuff and you should be good to go.
I am not sure If tow dollies have electric brakes. But if they do then I would make sure that you had a good proportional brake controller.
Oh, get the best receiver hitch you can buy do not tow the car dolly on the bumper.
Edit....I see the truck has a factory tow package. Good news.
