Just noticed a new phenomenon with my '01 F350 V10.
About 2-3 seconds after starting it up there is a dull 'thud' close to my feet.
Not sure if it's normal and I've never just noticed before, or ???
Also, to read the PCM for transmission codes do I need to head to the dealer as I've heard that only the 'good' readers will pick up tranny codes?
You are hearing the blend door for the heater under the dash. It works off vacuum, so when you start the truck, the vacuum pump comes on. When there is enough vacuum the door closes with a clunk.
Yup, mines loud enough to startle passengers. I like to act as if something's seriously wrong for first-time passengers, especially if it's late at nite and raining out.
Thanks for the responses guys.
Maybe I'll continue to try the 'cringing face' with my wife for a bit longer to see if she'll concede to an upgrade.....mmm, '11 F350
