I could make a fiberglass mold for one.
How rare are they?
It depends on where you are. In Canada, the place seems to be littered with them. Down here south of the border, and around the rest of the world, not so much, since the only place they were made was Canada.

Rare is the truth when it comes to M or F68 F3 tail gates, most had a coal or grain shute cut into them. When I did find one I spent a lot of time fabricating a larger center panel with the Ford Script in it from an old 1/2 ton tail gate to match. A lot of time. I saw a Merc on e-bay several years ago, not cherry, but went for over 700 as I recall.
Don't want to make you sad but I saw one In Carlisle PA two years ago. Mint other than the one end that was in the dirt from standing in the barn. And only $ 150 US. Here is a guy you can try, He is in Owen Sound Ontario. McMillan Fibreglass. Guy's name is Doug. He usually has lots of Mercury truck stuff and he does make fibreglass stuff too. Greg M-47
Yeah you're right Ilya but I have an M-47 and didn't know anyone looking for an M-68 tailgate. Would have been nice garage art. I had already spent my quota on parts from Carpenter's and a tailgate that I modified to make the mercury tailgate that I have. Greg M-47
