Giving serious thought to changing my damaged sheet metal to 39-40 Mercury Sheet metal(have a Mercury tailgate from Canada) or 46-48 Mercury passenger sheet metal. If not possible then I'll go to 40-41 commercial metal.. Just want something different!!
I've seen 40-47 trucks with the 46-48 passenger front sheetmetal, but of course, it'll take a little fabrication work. I know that 40-41 cars and trucks used different sheetmetal up front, so make sure you get parts from all truck, or all car. Since you are going to do some fabrication work, I'd go with the 39-40. I think that would make a nice clean looking front end for a truck, not as flashy as the 46-48 Mercury stuff. Whatever passenger car front end you use, be prepared for fabrication work, but the 40-41 truck stuff should go on fairly easily.
hey Ive asked a couple of guys thinking about this, the same question, what you gonna do with the old clip? I for sure need a passnger side fender and would probably take the whole clip if the price was right. Ill be in Texas in March
I do have a Canadian Mercury tailgate already, and are using a '48 box with '48 fenders, I liked the squareness of them over the stock round ones. As for the stock front end, I'll sell it or trade it for??? along with enough parts to make another including hoods and running boards. I can guess at the amount of fabrication involved to change over but to me it's part of the process.
