I know ford continued to sell trucks in the Mercury form in Canada into the late 60's. Is anyone in this forum in Canada? I want to locate a Mercury Tailgate from a 67-72 truck for my 68 f100. I might also like to locate the MERCURY from the hood. I have never seen these sold by any of the reproduction places and no salvage yards in Kansas have them. I would be interseted in even a damaged or rusted tailgate that I could cut the mercury logo from and graft onto a ford gate. I'm dealing with a bit of a time frame isuue here, the first weekend of March my truck gets painted. Any info or help will be greatly appriciated. I would be happy to pay to have one shipped if one can be located.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Jan-02 AT 10:15 AM (EST)]I'm a Canadian! I used to have a 67 Merc, still kicking myself for not keeping it, but what can you do. 68 was the last year the Mercs were made they are getting real hard to find. I have yet to come across any in Southern Ontario in any salvage yards. I have the hood lettering, but I plan on doing what you are, I have a 68 F100 that will have the Merc lettering on the hood. The tailgate is that hard part, so far I haven't come across anyone that makes Merc reproduction parts at all. I'm still looking though. Western Canada has long been known for not using salt on the roads in the winter so the older stuff lasts longer, maybe a member from out that neck of the woods can help you in finding what you need.
There's a lot of that stuff around Vancouver. Ken will want you to use the classifieds to find it, though. If you run an ad, you'll likely get a reply, maybe from me.

I was at the wreckers last Saturday, there was a Tailgate still on the 67 Merc,But the Letters on the Hood were gone.
I guess I could go out the afternoon to look for you to see if it's still there.
Is there a difference between Stepside,Styleside Tailgate ?

The difference between step and styleside is only about 10-18" There is actually a place making the merc 53-72 stepside gates. I can't remember the name at the moment.
No i have not I tried some of the other search engines and found links to Merc Truck sites, just not much out there, but I have found some neat info. I try that engine now, Thanks
The above reference to merc stepside tailgates should have read '53-68', not '53-72'.:-X11 The place making them I think was called Northern Classics, if I'm not mistaken. There is a pretty good website at 'mercurypickup.com'. At a mega book store the other day I found a book on 48-56 Ford trucks by a Don Bunn that has a chapter on the early Merc pickups. Unfortunately, the book was sloppily assembled by the publisher, resulting in a page or two missing from the chapter. I think it's available through motorbooks.com. One interesting tidbit shows a picture of Bill Stroppes' Mercury cabover, used to haul his Lincolns to the Mexican road races in the early fifties.
